Introducing: DIMO Marketplace, DIMO Mobile v1.8

DIMO’s newest update brings a number of new features and tools designed to give drivers the best connected car experience. DIMO is the first and only car app that lets you put your car’s data to work in a marketplace that can save you money and make your car more exciting. In release 1.8.0, the foundation is being laid for the global growth of the DIMO Marketplace.

Our goal is to bring this value — the value of data ownership and connectivity — to every car in the world. The path to mass adoption is just as important as the light at the end of the tunnel. We’re driving change by providing must-have benefits instead of focusing solely on trading $DIMO rewards for car data.

Introducing: The DIMO Marketplace

The Rewards tab is now the Market tab, and it’s the most important part of DIMO. The DIMO Marketplace showcases cost-saving services, vehicle utilities, and will come to include games and add-ons that make owning a connected vehicle more rewarding and fun. When using these services, drivers earn DIMO rewards.

Whether you’re registering your vehicle, booking maintenance, refinancing, enrolling in a quest, turning on a WiFi hotspot, or selling your car, you’ll find a partner or utility in the DIMO Market tab. When you transact in the DIMO marketplace you exchange data with the service provider you’re working with, leading to more efficient and valuable transactions. Data is the driving force.

At the moment, third-party Marketplace partners are all US-based. There will be DIMO Mobile app add-ons available globally in the near future, and we’re working to bring international partners to the DIMO Mobile app so that every driver has access to these cost-saving or car-enhancing services.

As we have opened this up in small doses to users in the last few months, many are already taking advantage of powerful services listed on the marketplace, saving thousands of dollars on everything from monthly payments to maintenance and earning $DIMO for every transaction.

The DIMO marketplace is also your key to bringing your friends and family to DIMO. By the end of 2023, the DIMO community will have access to a global marketplace of 100s of services that allow you to utilize your data, save time and money, and earn $DIMO tokens for the money you already spend on your car. There’s never been a better reason to share a product.

$DIMO Rewards Visualization

Since most users will earn most of their rewards through marketplace services, this is also the home of your Rewards data, and the rewards system has been completely refreshed. Now, you'll be able to see a detailed breakdown of your earnings in two new sections: “Your earnings” and “Network earnings”.

In Your Earnings, you'll see a breakdown of your $DIMO earnings by vehicle, including your streak and integration method. Additionally, this section will display earnings from marketplace partners.

The Network section provides overall DIMO Network statistics like cars connected, total miles driven, and all-time baseline $DIMO distributed. This enables users to gain insights into their rewards relative to the growth of the DIMO Network.

We’ve also updated the rewards line graph visualization and are introducing a new earning historical breakdown. The earnings history has been broken down into four categories: baseline, referrals, marketplace, and other so that you can see where your earnings are coming from.

For most users, the marketplace earnings will become the best way to earn DIMO. The new interface keeps your earnings organized, making it easier for you to track your progress with all the ways you can earn $DIMO rewards.

Making DIMO more attractive to all drivers

Using your data in the marketplace to save time and money shouldn’t be limited to the tech savvy. Our top priority is making DIMO Mobile as easy to use as possible. We’re continuing to improve the onboarding experience and creating seamless web3 features that will feel like any other mobile app whether you’re a blockchain pro, or a retired grandfather who spends his time scrolling through Facebook.

On top of these big updates and new features, the app has undergone several bug fixes, updated error screens, and copy updates to ensure a smooth transition into vehicle data ownership.

Improved Onboarding

Previously, users have had to select their make, model, and year when adding their car to DIMO. The v1.8 update to DIMO Mobile gets rid of that problem, allowing the DIMO AutoPi to automatically read your vehicle’s VIN and use the response to set the car data, or as we call it, the “device definition.”

This results in a much smoother onboarding flow and allows us to easily add more vehicles supported by DIMO without any future app updates.

With this update, we’re expanding support for vehicles to 2008 and newer from 2012 and newer! We expect to see some bugs along the way for VINs that we can’t read, but as usual, we have a process in place to come back and read those VINs.

Am I earning? Awaiting Data? What’s this all mean?

We’ve heard and seen confusion from users about whether or not their vehicle is properly onboarded, connected, or whether or not it’s qualified to earn. These are important “states” that users should not have to think hard about.

In 1.8, we’ve simplified vehicle states. Now you’ll see: qualified, needs to drive, and not connected. As a user, you should easily be able to understand whether your car is in good standing, streaming data, or if there are further actions to take.

In-app Shop

If you’ve ever wanted to browse the DIMO Shop in the app, now you can! Within the Market tab, you’ll find a new shop has been added to the app, allowing users to purchase DIMO devices, swag, and other great products for your vehicle. This section displays DIMO Hardware and other accessories and links out to respective product pages.

This app update means a lot to the DIMO core team, and it should to the community as well. The Marketplace — where users can save time and money, extend their car’s capabilities, and earn rewards — is one of the final major pieces that is now finally going live to the public.
